Self-Assessment for Advancing Responsible AI: The PIO Model as a Roadmap for the Ethical and Legal Evaluation of AI Systems

21 October 2026 | 12:40h to 13:10h

The PIO Model is a self-assessment tool designed to support compliance with AI risk regulations through a comprehensive verification process. It helps identify appropriate and inappropriate practices while raising awareness among the quadruple helix of the ethical and responsible use of data and AI systems. The model is aligned with international standards and ethical principles such as transparency, safety, accountability, and sustainability. It also includes sector-specific frameworks for healthcare, education, business, innovation, and research, and addresses the regulatory requirements of the European Union by providing catalogues, contractual clauses, and initial guiding questions to support the ethical and legal assessment of AI systems.
