ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: has AI had the last word on the future of organising work?

AI and automation will continue to impact how work is organised today, as they have thus far. As AI applications (with all derivatives, from deep learning to generative AI) become more widespread, the future impact will be even greater, encompassing sectors and/or activities that have usually been considered on the margin. 

In this session, we will delve into how to prepare a business organisation to face these changes.

Before, International Smart City Expert at Doxa Innova&Smart, leading consultancy projects of Smart City & IoT, helping governments, cities and companies around the world. Being part of the European Commission’s rolling agenda for Smart Cities and cooperating with a number of multilateral organisations (IADB, World Bank, UN).

From 2012 to 2015 I was Former Deputy CIO and Smart City Director of Barcelona City Council and CEO of Barcelona Institute of Technology (BIT), taking part of the International City CIO’s Group. Founding member of City Protocol Society (ISO 37105).

BELÉN ARRIBAS

Belén Arribas is a Digital Law expert and Commercial Lawyer. She is external Data Protection Officer of big corporates. She is President of the International Federation of Computer Associations (IFCLA), and Vice President of ENATIC. Belén Arribas is a former board member of the Digital Transformation Board of the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) and the first Spanish woman lawyer to be appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw). Recently appointed to the Pool of Experts of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), entity which shall be in charge of supervising the enforcement of the AI Act. Former managing partner at Andersen, Belén pioneered the practice of IT law in Spain and has been recognized in directories like Best Lawyers (categories of Technology Law and Data Protection), Who’s Who Legal ( TMT, Data Security and Data Protection, and distinguished as Thought Leader) for ten consecutive years.

KARINA GIBERT

Professor, director of IDEAI and dean of the COEINF

A professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia-BarcelonaTech (UPC), Karina Gibert has a degree and a PhD in Computer Engineering, specialised in Computational Statistics and Artificial Intelligence, and has completed postgraduate studies in University Teaching. She is a member of the government work team Catalonia.AI (Oct 2018 – present) and a member of the group of experts who write the Strategic Plan for AI in Catalonia (Gencat, approved on 2 February 2020). Dean of the COEINF since June 2023 and was the former Vice Dean of Big Data, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (2017-2020). She is the secretary and co-founder of the Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Centre (IDEAl) (2017 – present) and the founder of the COEINF Commission for the Gender Gap in Computer Engineering (May 2018 – present), a member of the Intercollegiate Gender Commission (2019 – present) and other gender commissions. Elected member of the board of directors of the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (IEMS, as of July 2016), she is also an advisor to the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence of the European Commission (September 2019 – present) on issues of ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the Spanish Senate.
