The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) is the independent body that guarantees the right to personal data protection within the Catalan public sector and the private sector that performs public functions and services, including professional associations and public and private universities in Catalonia.

What do we do?

• We defend citizens’ rights: we handle complaints and claims from citizens when entities and organizations fail to comply with the European Data Protection Regulation.
• We advise organizations: we provide information and resources to organizations and guide them in complying with data protection regulations. We promote technological innovation that respects the right to data protection and privacy.
• We promote training and awareness: we organize courses, conferences, and workshops. We create educational materials to spread awareness of the rights and obligations that ensure citizens’ privacy and data protection.
• We supervise entities: we monitor that entities in the Catalan public sector comply with data protection regulations, as well as private companies that provide services to them, such as cloud computing services. We also advise them on integrating privacy from the beginning of each project.
